Graph Tech
These are much better than the bent wire (Haigh) style as they may deflect, but they always return to their original shape. They are much lighter. They look really cool too.
We find it easiest to choose the correct tailwheel for your plane by the weight of your plane (max weight loading). If you're not sure, use the larger size, there isn't much of a weight penalty. If you choose a size which is too small, the bracket will impact the bottom of the rudder on a hard landing. If it's too stiff, it's usually not a problem but you can always sand down the width of the leaf-spring which will make it more flexible.

| This is how I mounted my Graphtech tailwheel on my 35% plane. I use two steering arms, using only 1/2 of each of them. I buy a pair of stiff springs at Ace Hardware store and use Kevlar string to bridge the gap. This offers very positive control. |

This is how Tony Kreg mounted the tailwheel on his Extra 260.
You need to make the steeting very solid.
Do not let the wheel freewheel!
Crosswinds cause major problems with ground steering. |
